In Case of Fire
A fire in your apartment
If there is a fire in your apartment only fight the fire if you can do so without risk to yourself and others in the apartment or the building as a whole. If you cannot fight the fire leave immediately ensuring that everyone in the apartment leaves with you.
Shut the doors
If there is a fire in your apartment and, if it is safe to do so, shut the door of the room which is ablaze, and the other interior doors before leaving.
Your apartment door and the stairway doors are fire doors and must be shut behind you. Shutting doors will slow the spread of fire and smoke.
Sound the alarm
If there is a fire in your apartment or you become aware of a fire in the building, sound the alarm as soon as possible by activating the break glass alarm in the lift foyer.
The buildings alarm system automatically notifies the fire brigade of the fire when activated.
Check your neighbours
If it is safe to do so, check that your neighbours on your floor of the building are aware of the fire and are leaving the building. Help your neighbour to leave if necessary.
If you are unable to help a neighbour that needs assistance, leave as quickly as possible and notify the fire brigade officers on site.
Leave the building
Do not use the lift to leave the building. Leave the building by the fire stairway. The fire stairway is the concrete stairway which exits into the car park. The stairway is marked by the universal, illuminated, white on green, exit sign.
If you cannot get to the fire stairway because of the fire, use the internal stairway. The internal stairway is the carpeted stairway that exits into the entrance lobby.

Assemble in Wright Street
When you leave the building assemble with the other residents who have left the building on the western footpath of Wright Street opposite our building.
Common Property and Asbestos
The Owners Corporation is responsible for the management of asbestos within common property, apartment owners are responsible for the management of asbestos within an apartment.
Asbestos is not a major issue in our apartment building. Nevertheless, it is a building built in the 1960’s and there are asbestos containing materials present which need to be considered by residents and tradespeople working in the building.
Asbestos has not been used in domestic building materials since the 1980s but before then asbestos containing materials were commonplace. In domestic buildings very common asbestos-containing materials were fibrous cement sheeting, roofing and flues.
The Owners Corporation commissioned the preparation of an asbestos report in respect of common property. The outcome is the Asbestos Inspection Report & Register of 21 February 2014 prepared for the OC by Mabi Services. This document can assist owners and residents to be properly informed and to inform people they employ. Link to the Asbestos Inspection Report & Register!
The OC also undertook some testing within an apartment for the benefit of residents and owners. Link to more information about asbestos within apartments!
